Drawing workshops running every Tuesday from 4 – 25 August.
Come along to Tynemouth station and take part in some fun workshops working with artists Anton Hecht, Bethan Laker, Chris Folwell and Gaynor Devaney. All events are free and suitable for all ages and there is no need to book.
Each Tuesday afternoon in August, the artists will be asking the visiting public to describe someone they know, a family member or friend with some information about their vital statistics and personalities. From this, illustration style portraits will be created to form a ‘Sea of Faces’ across the station of the communities of North Tyneside, those who once existed, those visiting but definitely those, not forgotten!
The caricatures will be made on A1 sheets of card and will form bunting around the station. On one side of the bunting will be the drawn portraits and the other will feature text that came up during the drawing process and conversations. In addition to this, the artists have worked with pupils from Marden High School and North Tyneside Arts Studio enabling them to create on their own drawings which will be shown alongside the work of the artists.
Artist Gaynor Devaney will be doing something slightly different! In her workshops, children will be able to create drawings of their home with detail about what makes their homes special. In addition to this they will also create a drawing they can take away with them, based on the same theme. As the workshops progress you will see the ‘Sea of Faces’ emerge and can marvel at all the characters and see if you can recognise a friend or relative amongst the crowd!
