As part of drawing?, Customs House presents an exhibition of new work by Newcastle and London based artists, Alice and Joe Woodhouse.
The installation of works includes sculptural displays and layered digital prints that bring together a range of visual elements from commercial industry and home-based computer programmes and drawing packages. The artworks explore the tools, gestures and visual language in both the physical and virtual work spaces of contemporary practice.
The exhibition also includes a curated research area containing archival material and documentation collected by the artists about the Basic Design course at Newcastle University in the 1950’s and 60’s. The Basic Design course at Newcastle was established by the artists Victor Pasmore and Richard Hamilton and revolutionised the teaching of art and design.
This research is reflected throughout the exhibition of works, tracing the changing strategies within both education and the creative industries.
