Does DRAWING Matter?

Our DRAWING Symposium aims to explore the role and importance of drawing in art, culture and the everyday. It is a platform to encourage discussion and debate on our key question ‘Does DRAWING Matter?’. Through this, we hope to further shape DRAWING’s future programme.
Chaired by Dr Mike Collier, Professor of Visual Art, University
of Sunderland with keynote speech on the importance of DRAWING by Professor Anita Taylor, co-founder of the Jerwood Drawing Prize, Director of Drawing Projects UK and Dean of the School of Art & Design, Bath Spa University. Talks by artists Nick Kennedy and Sabina Sallis on drawing in their practice. Other panel members include Joe Woodhouse, Programme Leader Foundation/ Extended Art & Design University of Sunderland; Sian Bowen, Professor of Drawing, Arts University Bournemouth; Professor of Fine Art, Northumbria University: Leverhulme Trust Research Fellow, 2017-19 and Esen Kaya, DRAWING Curator.
