Drawing: An expressive gesture with the advantage of permanence

National Glass Centre, Sunderland
Saturday 17 October - Sunday 13 March 2016

“Drawing is like making an expressive gesture with the advantage of permanence.” Henri Matisse

Drawing is a key skill of the visual artist and as Matisse showed through his work in collage, can be achieved without a pen or pencil and paper. This exhibition presents a wide range of work by artists who draw using glass and ceramics.

The exhibition will include work by artists who engrave on glass, who use line to create structure or pattern and artists using pyrography, in this instance using hot glass to draw on paper. We hope to inspire enjoyment of drawing in its widest sense and perhaps encourage people to try a new approach to drawing.
